Salt Lake Brine Shrimp Salt Mix | Ready to Use | Optimised for Hatching

BSS™ Salt Lake Brine Shrimp Salt Mix is a ready-to-use hatching solution designed to make hatching Salt Lake Artemia simple and consistent. Each batch is blended with marine salt and buffering minerals to create suitable hatching conditions for Artemia cysts, helping maintain the salinity and pH required for strong hatch performance and healthy nauplii.

Simply dissolve the mix in water, add your Artemia eggs and aerate. The formula is designed specifically for Salt Lake Artemia and removes the need to measure separate salt and buffering ingredients. One 200g pack provides up to approximately 8 litres of hatching solution when used at 25g per litre, making it convenient for regular breeders and hobbyists.

✔ Ready to Use – Pre-blended for simple and consistent hatching.
✔ Optimised Salinity & pH – Designed to support strong Salt Lake Artemia hatch rates.

✔ Fast Hatch Time – Nauplii typically hatch in around 24–36 hours.
✔ Convenient 200g Pack – Makes up to approximately 8 litres of hatching solution.

How to Use: Easy Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prepare the Water
Dissolve approximately 25g of BSS™ Salt Lake Brine Shrimp Salt Mix per litre of water.
    No dechlorinator is needed.
  2. Set the Conditions
Maintain a temperature of approximately 28°C. Aquarium heaters set between 25–28°C are suitable, although hatch times may be longer at the lower end of this range.
Light exposure can be beneficial but is not strictly necessary.
  3. Aerate
Add your Artemia cysts and use gentle aeration to keep the eggs suspended. A small aquarium air pump works well.
Use open-ended airline tubing to help prevent mineral build-up in an airstone.
  4. Hatch
Salt Lake Artemia nauplii typically hatch in around 24–36 hours, with hatch rates of up to 90% under ideal conditions when used with suitable cysts.
If conditions vary, allow up to 48 hours for hatching.
  5. Harvest
Separate hatched shrimp from shells using a fine 80–200 micron mesh net, or attract the nauplii with a light source and collect them using a pipette.

Safety & Storage

  • Keep tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • For best results, use within 6 months of opening.
  • For extended storage of up to 2 years, refrigerate or freeze. Cold storage may alter moisture levels and gradually reduce hatch performance.
  • Not for human consumption.
  • Keep out of reach of children – small parts may pose a choking hazard.
  • Regularly test water parameters for best results.
